FALL!?

I wrestle with the changing seasons of New England. The summers, though spectacular, seem too short and the winters always seems too long, and I can’t for the life of me figure out what spring is (usually by the time the snow melts summer has popped up). And yet something in me craves the rhythms of this wild place. If I’m honest, deep within, there is a longing for these patterns. Somehow it feels appropriate and healthy to shift gears with the unstoppable, changing earth around you.

As we arrived back from California we found the first sprinklings of Fall awaiting us. In the two weeks we had been gone the air had already abandoned its relentless humidity, and in its place received us with the type of crisp autumn air that makes my eyes open a little wider and makes me breath through my nose and, if its not too cold, makes me feel a little more alive. And now as we drive around, (we took a Sunday drive to visit the town of Lexington where the first shot of the Revolutionary War was fired) we get to see splatters of vibrant color everywhere. My favorite trees are these ones that are turning yellow. I don’t know their name but they aren’t changing in big chunks or in a gradual manner, but in tiny patches and I think it looks like God took a yellow paintball gun to them.

Anyways, the fall atmosphere seem appropriate as we knuckle down into this next semester of school and work, and begin making preparations for Josiah’s little brother to come join us. So, even though it feels like summer was taken from me too quickly, like when a waiter takes your salad away before you were finished, I am glad for the fall, and look forward to making a pumpkin pie to celebrate it soon.

What a lovely picture you painted for me Jenelle! I was so glad to be able to see you and Cam and Josiah at the wedding. How have things been since you've returned? Are you back into a routine? Things have been non-stop for us. This is mostly a good thing, but it takes getting used to. Our New Frontiers Church Plant group here in Hull went to an NFI church in Leeds this past Sunday for a send off/prayer. It was really good. They prayed over us and spoke into our lives and encouraged us as we struggle to bring a new church in to Hull. Anyhow, I love you lots, and I'm so glad you got a blog to share your day-to-day with me.

Love,

Rachel
